What Are Conversations?
A Conversation is an open-ended AI chat you create for your hub. Each user gets private threads inside it and can return at any time, unlike a journey step with a defined completion point.
A Conversation gives users a place to have open-ended, one-on-one chats with an AI that knows your material. Conversations aren't part of a journey's step-by-step flow. They stand alongside journeys as an ongoing way for users to get help.
How a Conversation differs from a step
A step lives inside a milestone and has a defined finish line. The user answers its questions and completes it.
A Conversation is open-ended. Users can start a thread, leave, and return later. There's no completion state because the Conversation is an ongoing resource, not a task to finish.
You create the Conversation itself
You create each Conversation directly. Answer OBIE's questions in the Conversation Builder, or select Advanced Mode to enter the details yourself. OBIE creates one Conversation for your hub, not a template that produces separate copies.
Each user gets private threads
Inside a Conversation, each user can start a New thread, search past threads, rename them, or delete one. Those threads are private to that user. Each thread keeps its own message history, so the user can return to a topic and continue where they left off.
Settings for one Conversation
Open a Conversation from the Conversations list and select Edit to manage:
- General: title, description, and published status.
- Customize: icon and color.
- Prompt: how the AI should behave.
- Documents: the reference documents the AI can use.
- Prerequisites: required steps users must complete before the Conversation becomes available.
- Visibility under Advanced: rules that hide the Conversation entirely when their conditions aren't met.
The Conversations page also has separate Page Settings for the whole section, including its content, background, and visibility.
Where users find Conversations
Users open the Conversations area from the hub home page. They see the Conversations currently available to them, open one, and start a private thread. The AI responds using that Conversation's prompt and attached documents.
Rename Conversations for your hub
Conversations is the default label. In Hub Settings → Customize, you can rename it to Chats, Sessions, Discussions, or another label that fits your program.
Frequently asked questions
- Can users see each other's threads?
- No. Each user's threads are private to them. Conversations are one-on-one between the user and the AI.
- Can I delete a Conversation?
- Only if no one has a chat in it. If people already have chats in the Conversation, OBIE blocks the deletion.
- Is there a limit to how many Conversations I can create?
- Published Conversations count against your plan's active-Conversation limit. You can keep creating drafts, but if you try to publish beyond the limit, OBIE prompts you to upgrade.
- Can I control when a Conversation becomes available?
- Yes. Use prerequisites when the Conversation depends on completing specific steps. Use Visibility rules for other conditions, such as dates, tags, offers, or progress rules. In the current user experience, either can keep the Conversation out of the available list until its conditions are met.
